Description

"Plants medium-sized to subrobust, usually 12–20 cm tall. Petioles light pinkish to purplish, sparsely arachnoid, narrow, unwinged; plant base without tunic, with whitish hairs. Leaves deep green, with purplish mid-vein, sparsely arachnoid, narrowly oblnceolate in outline, usually 12–18 × 2–3.5 cm, pinnatisect, with 3–5 pairs of subrecurved, triangular to narrowly triangular, acute to acuminate lateral segments, distal margin sigmoid to convex, subentire in distal segments, filiform-dentate in proximal ones, proximal margin entire, ± concave; interlobes distinct, narrow, ca. 2–10 × 2–3 (–4) mm, usually with several patent filiform teeth, margins often, surface rarely, suffused brown-purple; terminal segment triangular or triangular-sagittate, ± entire, (1–) 2–2.5 (–3) cm long. Scapes brown-green, arachnoid, usually overtopping leaves. Capitulum yellow, usually 3–4 cm wide. Involucre dark green, 9–12 mm wide and broadly rounded at base. Outer phyllaries (12) 13–14 (15), abaxially dark green or brownish green, adaxially pale greenish-subpruinose, not imbricate, arcuate-recurved to arcuate-patent, ± lanceolate, usually (7.5–) 8–9.5 (–11) × 2.5–3.5 mm, with an indistinct membranous border ca. 0.1 (–0.2) mm wide, margin ± glabrous, apex flat; inner phyllaries linear, 13–15 mm long, apex flat. Outer ligules ± flat, striped greenish grey outside, inner ligule teeth dirty yellow. Stigmas grey-green, with dark pubescence outside. Anthers polliniferous, pollen grains irregular in size. Achenes light greyish stramineous brown 3.7–4.1 × (0.9–) 1.0 mm, body very densely spinulose in upper 1/4, otherwise ± smooth or tuberculate, spinules short, often ± robust, usually 0.15–0.25 mm long, some of the upper ones often curved upwards, body abruptly narrowing into a subcylindrical to subconical cone 0.7–0.8 mm long, 0.3–0.35 mm thick at base, 0.25–0.3 mm distally; beak thin, long, 7.5–8.5 × 0.1–0.15 mm, pappus ± white, ca. 6 mm long.
