This species must not be confused with the one usually treated as Cephalorrhynchus polycladus (Boiss.) Kirp., which is based on Zollikoferia polyclada Boiss., not on Lactuca polyclada Boiss. The generic affinity of Cephalorrhynchus polycladus is not yet resolved and it is for the time being here treated provisionally as Lactuca "polyclada". Both are alpine species but are readily distinguished already habitually: In Cicerbita polyclada, the repeatedly ± divaricately and intricately branched stems are conspicuously inflated and rather soft, whereas they are slender and indurate in Lactuca "polyclada".
