Description
"Plants medium-sized but of robust appearance, usually 5–10 (–18) cm tall. Petiole usually with purplish mid-vein, narrow or narrowly winged, sparsely arachnoid; plant base with a slightly developed tunic, with yellowish hairs. Leaves glaucous-green, ± appressed to ground, narrowly oblanceolate in outline, usually 8–12 (–22) × 2.5–5 cm, ± pinnatisect, with 2–4 pairs of ± remote, deltoid-triangular, ± patent to distally recurved, entire lateral segments; interlobes relatively long and broad, usually 0.5–1.2 × 0.3–0.8 cm, with very sparse minute teeth or entire; terminal segment triangular to oblong-helmet-shaped, often with an elongated distal part. Scapes brownish-purplish, arachnoid, usually shorter than leaves. Capitulum yellow, ca. 2–3 cm wide. Involucre olivaceous to deep glaucous green, usually 7–8 mm wide and narrowly rounded at base. Outer phyllaries probably 9–11, appressed at base, loosely appressed, or with some phyllaries slightly recurved, ovate to lanceolate, usually 5–8 (–10) × 2–3.3 mm, ± imbricate, with a dark middle part of variable width, bordered pale green (and often suffused pinkish), with a ± gradual transition into a white-membranous border ca. 0.5 mm wide, apex callose to subcorniculate; inner phyllaries ca. 15 mm long. Outer ligules ± flat, striped light purplish grey outside. Stigmas bright yellow; anthers polliniferous. Achenes light stramineous-ochraceous to light cinnamon-ochraceous, 5.2–5.6 × 1.1–1.3 mm, body with ± dense short spinules in upper 1/3–1/2, some spinules also on cone basal part, body subgradually to ± gradually narrowing into a subcylindrical cone 1.2–1.4 mm long, ca. 0.4–0.45 mm thick at base, 0.30–0,35 mm distally, beak thin, 7.5–8.5 mm long, pappus white, ca. 6–7 mm long."
