"Plants small, to 8–10 (–14) cm tall. Petiole usually faintly purplish, short, narrow, narrowly winged, subglabrous; plant base with whitish hairs, tunic not observed in cultivated material. Leaves light greyish green, with pale green or pinkish mid-vein, oblanceolate, usually 5–7 × 1–1.5 cm, not divided, usually entire, inner leaves often denticulate, blade apex subobtuse. Scapes brownish green, sometimes suffused pinkish, sparsely arachnoid, overtopping leaves. Capitulum yellow, to ca. 2 cm wide. Involucre with contrasting colours (whitish phyllary borders versus dark, blackish green phyllary middle parts), 5–7 mm wide and narrowly rounded to subobconical at base. Outer phyllaries (7) 8–10 (11), subimbricate, ovate to lanceolate or linear-lanceolate, from 4.5–5.5 × 2.0–2.6 mm to 6.5–8 (–9) × 1.5–2.0 mm, ± appressed, with a whitish border 0.3–0.5 mm wide, inside bordered light green, middle strip ± black, margins glabrous, apex purplish, ± flat; inner phyllaries initially 13–14 mm long, later reaching 19 mm, of unequal width, apex ± flat. Outer ligules most often subtubular to cucullate, sometimes ± flat, striped faintly purplish outside, inner ligule teeth usually reddish. Anthers polliniferous, pollen grains irregular in size. Stigmas greyish green, with black pubescence outside. Achenes fulvous to reddish light brown, ca. 5.5–5.8 × ca. 1.0 mm, body ± densely spinulose and squamulose in upper 1/3, squamules deeply incised, body subgradually to subabruptly narrowing into thin cylindrical cone 1.2–1.5 × 0.2–0.25 mm (cone with a subconical base); beak thin, ca. 6.5 mm long, pappus yellowish white, ca. 5 mm long.
