"Plants ± slender, up to medium-sized, usually 7–15 cm tall. Petiole purple, narrow, unwinged, subglabrous to sparsely arachnoid; plant base with some brownish hairs, without tunic. Leaves greyish glaucous-green, suffused lividoid, usually with purple mid-vein, at least proximally, usually sparsely arachnoid, less of ten subglabrous, from narrowly linear to linear-oblong in outline, the outermost ones often undivided, sparsely denticulate to acutely lobulate, 4–7 × 0.4–0.7 cm, middle leaves usually 6–10 (–11) × 1–2 (–2.5) cm, pinnatisect, with 3–5 pairs or irregular pairs of linear to narrowly linear-triangular, patent, acuminate lateral segments usually (0.6–) 0.7–1.1 mm long, not rarely entire, most often with a single basal to sub-basal thin acuminate tooth to the distal margin, sometimes with several filiform or acuminate teeth on broadened basal part of the distal margin; interlobes long, narrow (1–2 mm), entire or with a single acuminate tooth; terminal segment elongated, linear-triangular, entire, acute, with basal lobules patent, short, linear-triangular to ± triangular. Scapes brownish green, often suffused purplish, ± arachnoid, at least distally, overtopping leaves. Capitulum 2–3.5 cm wide. Involucre light green, 6–8 mm wide and narrowly rounded at base. Outer phyllaries (7) 8–12, ± imbricate or slightly so, ovate to lanceolate, usually 5.5–7 × 2.2–3 mm, appressed, with a ± white border 0.3–0.5 mm wide (often bordered pink inside), with a ± sharp transition into a pale green middle part, margin often denticulate, minutely ciliate only very distally, apex usually pinkish or darker green corniculate; inner phyllaries 10–12 mm, later to 15 mm long, ± flat to callose. Ligule colour variable, usually white (only central florets yellowish proximally), sometimes outer ligules white distally (inside), inner ones wholly yellowish, very rarely all ligules wholly pale whitish yellow, outer ones striped pinkish grey or greyish pink outside, often with the paler margins pink (sometimes next outer ones pinkish outside), inner ligule teeth yellow. Stigmas ± yellow, sometimes slightly greyish yellow or very pale greenish yellow, with hyaline pubescence outside. Anthers without pollen, sometimes with a few pollen grains, rarely sparsely polliniferous; pollen grains irregular in size. Achenes red-brown or fulvous red-brown (unripe ochraceous brown), (4.5–) 4.9–5.2 × 0.8–0.9 mm, body ± densely spinulose in the upper 1/3, spinules erect-patent, short, conical, acute, body gradually narrowing into a thin cylindrical cone (1.0–) 1.2–1.6 mm long; beak thin, 5–5.5 mm long; pappus ± white, 5.5–6 mm long.
