Scapes pale green or suffused purplish proximally, arachnoid, later ± glabrescent, ± equalling leaves. Capitulum yellow, ± flat to ± convex, relatively large, 3.5–5 cm wide. Involucre ± pruinose, usually 7–8 mm wide and rounded to truncate at base. Outer phyllaries 14–21, proximally loosely appressed, distally arcuate, later to patent, subimbricate, ovate to lanceolate, 7–9 mm long, the broadest ones 4.5–5 mm wide, abaxially with a bluish dark olivaceous-green middle strip, sometimes 1 mm, often to 3.5 mm wide, with a gradual transition into mid-green or pale green marginal part and a whitish membranous border 0.5–1 mm wide, margin sometimes denticulate, usually sparsely ciliate distally, apex ± flat, usually suffused purplish, phyllaries adaxially paler, more conspicuously suffused purplish; inner phyllaries 11–14 mm long, of ± unequal width, ± dark olivaceous-green, pruinose. Outer ligules flat, relatively narrow, striped greyish olivaceous-green outside, apical teeth grey-green abaxially (adaxially yellow), inner ligule teeth yellow. Stigmas dark discoloured, greyish-greenish, with a blackish pubescence outside; anthers polliniferous, pollen grains irregular in size. Achenes light grey or light brownish grey, large, 5.1–6.3 × 1.2–1.3 mm, body with ± sparse coarse, often broadly conical erect-patent spinules up to 0.3 mm long in upper 1/3–1/5, sometimes coalescing to form tricuspidate squamules, body gradually narrowing into cylindrical to a thin ± subcylindrical cone (1.2–) 1.5–1.8 mm long, 0.2–0.3 mm thick at base, 0.15–0.25 mm distally, with a few little spinules at base, beak 7–8 mm long, pappus ± white to very slightly brownish white, 6–7 mm long.
